About the method

What is TECAR therapy?

One of the most effective methods in modern physiotherapy — painless, non-invasive and noticeable from the very first session.

TECAR (Transfer of Energy Capacitive And Resistive) is a modern form of diathermy — a therapy that uses a high-frequency radio wave.

What makes it remarkable is that it does not warm the body from the outside, like a heating pad would. The wave passes through the skin and generates heat inside the tissues, exactly where the problem is. This is known as endogenous heat ("created within"). It allows us to warm structures that ordinary heating simply cannot reach.

How it works — step by step

1

Radio wave

The handpiece emits a wave at 300–500 kHz, which painlessly passes through the skin deep into the body.

2

Ion movement

The electromagnetic field sets charged particles in the tissue in motion. Their friction generates heat — from within.

3

Increased blood flow

Vessels dilate, blood and lymph flow increases. Cells receive more oxygen and nutrients.

4

Regeneration

Metabolism and tissue repair speed up, muscle tension drops, pain and swelling subside.

Three modes — three depths

CET · capacitive

Superficial tissues

Works on well-hydrated structures: skin, the lymphatic and vascular system, fascia and superficial muscles. This is the mode for relaxation, drainage and beauty treatments.

Depth approx. 0.5–2 cm
DEEP CET · enhanced

Deep muscles

Penetrates muscle tissue much deeper and warms the so-called deep muscles — those that massage or superficial heating cannot reach. Key for chronic tension and contractures.

Depth up to 6 cm
RET · resistive

Tendons, joints, bones

Concentrates energy in high-resistance structures — tendons, ligaments, joint capsules and bones. The mode for enthesopathies, post-injury conditions and degenerative changes.

Pain reliefreduced symptoms, often after the first session
Anti-inflammatorysupports resorption of swelling and inflammation
Biostimulatingspeeds up tissue regeneration and healing
Relaxingreduces muscle tension and contractures

How is TECAR different from other treatments?

We deliver the therapy during movement and manual therapy — the physiotherapist works with the handpiece while mobilising a joint or releasing a muscle. The tissue is warm and more pliable, so exercises and manual therapy work more effectively. The session is pleasant, requires no downtime, and you return to daily activities right away.

Two paths, one therapy

Therapeutic and aesthetic

The same TECAR radiofrequency mechanism supports tissue recovery in treatment — and improves skin condition in beauty treatments.

Safety

Contraindications to TECAR therapy

TECAR therapy is safe and well tolerated, but in certain situations we do not perform it or proceed with caution. The final decision is made during the qualification consultation.

Absolute — we do not treat

When the treatment is ruled out

  • Growth tissue — children and adolescents during growth (growth plates)
  • Pacemaker and other implanted electronic devices (defibrillator, insulin pump, cochlear implant)
  • Pregnancy or suspected pregnancy
  • Active cancer or ongoing radiotherapy
  • Active deep vein thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, pulmonary embolism
  • Active bleeding or bleeding tendency, open wounds or burns in the treatment area
  • Fever and acute infections (including tuberculosis)
Relative — consultation required

When we proceed with caution

  • Heart and circulatory system conditions, uncontrolled hypertension
  • Blood clotting disorders and anticoagulant medication
  • Diabetes (especially insulin injection sites)
  • Sensory disturbances (loss, weakening, hypersensitivity) and heat hypersensitivity
  • Epilepsy, autoimmune diseases
  • Metal implants, piercings, IUD, recent aesthetic procedures in the treatment area
  • Thin or sensitive skin, skin conditions in the area; advanced age
  • General exhaustion (cachexia)

Areas we do not treat:

Heart area Head, eyes, mouth Endocrine glands and gonads (thyroid, testes/ovaries)
Good news: have a hip or knee prosthesis, or a healed fracture? This usually does not rule out therapy — unlike older methods (e.g. ultrasound), Winback technology is used in orthopaedic rehabilitation. We always match the mode and treatment area during the qualification consultation.

This list is for information purposes only and does not replace medical advice. Tell your therapist about all conditions, medications and implanted devices — safety and treatment selection are decided during the qualification consultation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything patients usually want to know before their first visit. Can't find your answer? Call or write to us.

What is TECAR therapy and how does it work?
TECAR (Capacitive and Resistive Energy Transfer) is a form of deep diathermy: radiofrequency generates endogenous heat inside the tissues — exactly where it is needed. It improves blood supply and tissue nutrition, speeds up natural regeneration, relieves pain and relaxes muscles. In CET mode we work on soft tissues (muscles, fascia, the lymphatic system); in RET mode — deeper: on tendons, ligaments and joint structures. Our Winback device works at 300/500 kHz.
Does the treatment hurt?
No. The treatment is painless and most patients find it genuinely pleasant — you feel gentle, deep warmth. We adjust the intensity to your feedback in real time, and in acute conditions we can work in athermal mode (without noticeable heat).
How long does a session take?
Usually 20–40 minutes, depending on the body area and the goal of therapy. The first visit takes longer, as it includes the qualification consultation: interview, examination and a therapy plan.
How many sessions until I feel results?
Pain relief and relaxation are often felt after the very first session. In most cases we plan a series of 4–8 sessions, 1–3 times a week — or even more often if needed. The exact number depends on the condition, its duration and your body's response.
How should I prepare for a session?
Hydrate well — TECAR technology works with the water contained in your tissues, so good hydration genuinely improves results. On the day of the session do not apply creams or lotions to the treatment area, and remove jewellery and metal elements. Be sure to tell us about your conditions, medications and implanted devices.
Are there any side effects?
The therapy is non-invasive and, with proper qualification, safe. After a session you may notice temporary skin redness and a feeling of warmth, less often short-lived fatigue — a natural response of the body to stimulated circulation.
Can I return to normal activity and exercise afterwards?
Yes — you return to daily activity right away. What's more, Winback technology allows us to work during movement, so exercises or manual therapy are often part of the visit itself.
Can TECAR be combined with other methods?
Yes — and that is when it works best. Deep heat prepares the tissues: it increases their elasticity and blood supply, so manual therapy and exercises work faster and more effectively.
How does TECAR work in beauty treatments?
Radiofrequency stimulates collagen production and, by boosting fibroblast activity, also increases the synthesis of elastin and your skin's own natural hyaluronic acid — the skin rebuilds itself from within. It also improves microcirculation and lymphatic drainage. The results: firmer skin on the face and body, reduced cellulite and swelling, improved skin tension and tone — with no needles and no downtime.
Do I need a referral?
No. Just book a qualification consultation — the physiotherapist will take your history, assess indications and contraindications, and create a therapy plan tailored to you.
